How to Apply Mascara - Applying Mascara

As mascaras are now loaded with proteins and waxes to condition the lashes and come in problem-solving formulations, look for one that suits your needs, Thin, sparselooking lashes will benefit from lash-building How to Apply Mascaraformulations that contain special ingredients to add volume and thickness, If you wear contact lenses, do not use lash-building mascaras, as the fibres within them can get trapped between eye and lens, causing irritation.

Choosing Best Mascara

There are several kinds of mascara to choose from. Cake mascara is popular with models, because it lasts a long time.

There is waterproof mascara, which is fine if you swim or cry a lot; it stays intact on your lashes and will only come off with an eye makeup remover specifically made for this type of mascara. Regular mascara or water-soluble mascara will run if you tear and is easily removed with plain old water. Yet another kind of mascara has little fibers in it to make your lashes look thicker.

However, you should know that the fibers can get into your eyes, so be extra careful when you use it, particularly if you wear contact lenses. Mascaras also come in blue, green, even red. I truly prefer to stick to the browns and blacks for the most natural look.

Short lashes should be coated with mascaras containing plastic polymers which cling just to the tips of the lashes to create the illusion of extra length, Sporty and outdoor types should opt for a waterproof or water-resistant mascara (the former will withstand a dip in the pool, while the latter holds up only to tears or perspiration), These types of mascaras are extremely effective but can be drying on the lashes and have no ability to add volume or thickness to the lashes.

Mascara Application

However refined the formula, the shape of the mascara wand plays a significant role in lash definition, For example, crescent-shaped wands will help curve the lashes up; fat wands with lots of bristles will help thicken the lashes by coating each one individually; bristleless wands (they look like the tip of a metal screw) will allow you to paint lashes right to the roots; and double-tapered brushes (they have small bristles at either end that get longer towards the middle of the wand) will help define very thin and sparse lashes.

How to Apply Mascara

With modern mascaras there is no need to pump the wand in and out of its container before applying, This can actually cause overload and result in clogged lashes.

You need only enough product on the wand to coat the lashes, so any excess should be wiped off with a tissue, Roll the wand through the lashes to help curl-definition, Always work on the upper lashes from underneath to avoid overloading and keep mascara on the lower lashes to a minimum, especially if you are looking tired or have a tendency to rub your eyes a lot.

Mascara Makeup Tip: Get s new mascara at least every two months. You will avoid bacteria buildup. And if it starts smelling funny before then, chuck it.

Did you know that your eyebrow is supposed to start directly above the inner corner of your eye?
The highest point should be just a little beyond the outer corner of the iris and should taper off to the end!
OK, so now you know...

A. Do Liner First

Lip liner is optional but if you use it, it should go on first. Don't use liner darker than your lipstick, because if the lipstick fades and the liner doesn't, you're left with just an outline. Use neutral or lipstick-matched liner.

Starting at the center of your upper lip, draw a line to each outer corner, following the edge of your natural lip line.

Fill in color all over lips if you want extra holding power for your lipstick.

*Hint: Chill lip pencil in the refrigerator for a few minutes to make sharpening easier.

B. Lipstick

A dusting of powder or bit of foundation beneath lipstick can maximize its staying power. Either can dry lips, though, so use a creamy formula lipstick.

Stretch your lips and starting at the center of top or bottom, glide color to corners. Blot, reapply and blot again for longer-lasting color.

*Hint: A lip brush gives you the most precision in applying lipstick.
